RrDNS.com and RrDNSHosting.com have both gone green as of today. Its been a while since we have been concerned about the harm our services can cause to the Ecosystem and moving a step forward we will be offering complete green webhosting solutions. We are proud to be able to play our own bit in the “Save earth, go green” campaign. Our new range of custom built green clustered solutions and shared hosting plans would be made public soon. A migration plan for existing clients who wish to get their clusters moved to green webservers without having to change their IP addresses is being worked upon as well. Clients will get a notification through email on what exact upgrade options they have available based on their existing hardware configurations. It gives us great pleasure to state that almost all upgrades which will made available to existing clients would not increase their monthly cluster costs. We have already had a few enquiries from existing clients about such upgrades and so a roll out on the first batch of such green upgrades would be done from 15th November 2009 onwards. We have now standardized the setup required for most Professional Bloggers and so have also decided to launch it as a service plan itself so that bloggers don’t waste their time on figuring out what the best standard configuration can be for their popular blogs. The cluster setup for Blog sites is specifically designed to handle popular sites running blog scripts like Wordpress, Wordpress MU, MovableType, b2Evolution, Nucleus, Blog System and any other blogging or microblogging scripts. The objective of the setup is to make the sites ultra fast, seo friendly and digg proof to maximize the revenue output. Optional services like Geolocated IPs and installation of third party plugins/softwares like memcached to provide greater speed to your blogs are also available with this plan. The plan includes two Webservers and one MySQL server setup to run one website in round robin load balanced environment. The default webserver used is Lighttpd with PHP configured to run as FastCGI and MySQL 4.x/5.x/5.1.x is made available on request.

Choice of two webservers available on Shared Clustered Hosting Accounts
Sunday, August 9th, 2009Our Shared Clustered Hosting Accounts now offer choice of two webservers to select from.
1. Nginx:
Nginx (pronounced as “engine X”) is a lightweight, high performance web server/reverse proxy and e-mail (IMAP/POP3) proxy, licensed under a BSD-like license.
Basic HTTP features:
- Handling of static files, index files, and autoindexing; open file descriptor cache;
- Accelerated reverse proxying with caching; simple load balancing and fault tolerance;
- Accelerated support with caching of remote FastCGI servers; simple load balancing and fault tolerance;
- Modular architecture. Filters include gzipping, byte ranges, chunked responses, XSLT, and SSI. Multiple SSI inclusions within a single page can be processed in parallel if they are handled by FastCGI or proxied servers.
- SSL and TLS SNI support.
We have php running in Fastcgi mode on our servers with Nginx.
2. Lighttpd:
Lighttpd (pronounced “lighty” or “Light-TPD”) is a web server designed to be secure, fast, standards-compliant, and flexible while being optimized for speed-critical environments.
Basic features :
- Load-balancing FastCGI, SCGI and HTTP proxy support
- chroot support
- select()-/poll()-/epoll() based web server
- Support for more efficient event notification schemes like kqueue and epoll
- Conditional rewrites (mod_rewrite)
