High Performance Preconfigured Amavisd-new Anti-spam Mail Gateway Servers Available

Spam mails are now part of our every day life. Almost everyone using one or more mail addresses get spam mails or unwanted junk mails. Most businesses and popular websites face an increasing influx of spam mails as the global internet activity continues to grow. We provide web and mail server services for many such high traffic websites. The amount of spam traffic such sites have is way more than normal. Our clients and their employees prefer no spam mails into their business mailboxes and we as custom solution provider have to deliver what they ask for. To serve the purpose we build shared anti-spam mail gateways using Amavisd-new.

Amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between mailer (MTA) and one or more content checkers: virus scanners, and/or Mail::SpamAssassin Perl module. It is written in Perl, ensuring high reliability, portability and maintainability. It talks to MTA via (E)SMTP or LMTP protocols, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design, which could cause a mail loss. Amavisd-new is a basically an interface which uses a “scan and pass” method for both inbound and outbound mails. This functionality is very similar to Google’s Postini Mail scanning services or the Barracuda Spam Firewall services. While other such services require a good amount of financial investment, amavisd-new can run off a normal Linux machine and is open-source.

We are now providing both dedicated anti-spam gateway servers and shared anti-spam gateway services as part of our custom solutions services. The dedicated anti-spam mail gateway servers can scan both your inbound and outbound mails for spam content,viruses and phishing content. They minimize the impact of spam mails on your business and discard most junk. The dedicated anti-spam mail gateways are fully managed along with any custom configurations that needs to be done to your current mail servers as well. We currently have prebuilt tailor made gateways available to work with Cpanel servers. All mail servers and control panels are supported on these gateways but for any control panel or setup other than cpanel, the gateways need to be custom built. Amavisd-new uses spamassassin and Clamav Antivirus on these Cpanel mail gateway servers to scan the mails.

We are also offering shared anti-spam gateway services currently. These services are specifically for businesses who have moderate mail activity and cannot afford dedicated anti-spam servers. This service is currently in beta testing phaze and you can email us at betatesting at rrdns.com to get a shared anti-spam gateway account with us. Please note that currently only cpanel servers are supported for the shared anti-spam gateway services and you would need a cpanel based dedicated server or VPS to be able to use this service.

Green Custom Web Hosting Solutions now available

RrDNS.com and RrDNSHosting.com have both gone green as of today. Its been a while since we have been concerned about the harm our services can cause to the Ecosystem and moving a step forward we will be offering complete green webhosting solutions. We are proud to be able to play our own bit in the “Save earth, go green” campaign. Our new range of custom built green clustered solutions and shared hosting plans would be made public soon. A migration plan for existing clients who wish to get their clusters moved to green webservers without having to change their IP addresses is being worked upon as well. Clients will get a notification through email on what exact upgrade options they have available based on their existing hardware configurations. It gives us great pleasure to state that almost all upgrades which will made available to existing clients would not increase their monthly cluster costs. We have already had a few enquiries from existing clients about such upgrades and so a roll out on the first batch of such green upgrades would be done from 15th November 2009 onwards. We have had a heavy surge of orders from people who are Professional Bloggers recently and we have deployed numerous such clusters over the past few days. We have now standardized the setup required for most Professional Bloggers and so have also decided to launch it as a service plan itself so that bloggers don’t waste their time on figuring out what the best standard configuration can be for their popular blogs. The cluster setup for Blog sites is specifically designed to handle popular sites running blog scripts like Wordpress, Wordpress MU, MovableType, b2Evolution, Nucleus, Blog System and any other blogging or microblogging scripts. The objective of the setup is to make the sites ultra fast, seo friendly and digg proof to maximize the revenue output. Optional services like Geolocated IPs and installation of third party plugins/softwares like memcached to provide greater speed to your blogs are also available with this plan. The plan includes two Webservers and one MySQL server setup to run one website in round robin load balanced environment. The default webserver used is Lighttpd with PHP configured to run as FastCGI and MySQL 4.x/5.x/5.1.x is made available on request.

Our Shared Clustered Hosting Accounts now offer choice of two webservers to select from.

1. Nginx:

Nginx (pronounced as “engine X”) is a lightweight, high performance web server/reverse proxy and e-mail (IMAP/POP3) proxy, licensed under a BSD-like license.

Basic HTTP features:

Handling of static files, index files, and autoindexing; open file descriptor cache;
Accelerated reverse proxying with caching; simple load balancing and fault tolerance;
Accelerated support with caching of remote FastCGI servers; simple load balancing and fault tolerance;
Modular architecture. Filters include gzipping, byte ranges, chunked responses, XSLT, and SSI. Multiple SSI inclusions within a single page can be processed in parallel if they are handled by FastCGI or proxied servers.
SSL and TLS SNI support.

We have php running in Fastcgi mode on our servers with Nginx.

2. Lighttpd:

Lighttpd (pronounced “lighty” or “Light-TPD”) is a web server designed to be secure, fast, standards-compliant, and flexible while being optimized for speed-critical environments.

Load-balancing FastCGI, SCGI and HTTP proxy support
chroot support
select()-/poll()-/epoll() based web server
Support for more efficient event notification schemes like kqueue and epoll

We run php running in fastcgi mode on our servers with Lighttpd.
